DC is full of PRIDE this month! While celebrations are in full swing, it is important to remember that we were not always able to freely celebrate or openly identify as LGBT*. Many consider the Stonewall Riots to be the beginning of the modern LGBT rights movement occurring on June 28, 1969. People fly the rainbow flag in June for this reason. More often than not, we do not hear enough from younger or older members of the community – give them a safe, positive space to be heard. Museums, history books, and our elders are some of the best resources to learn about Pride Month and LGBT* history overall.
As a result of the freedom fighters and human rights campaigns, we are able to unite as a LGBT* community to share experiences and education as well as make new memories and friends. Will you be celebrating Pride in D.C.? Great! The wonderful folks over at Capital Pride Alliance have a jam-packed events calendar for the entire month of June. All they need is YOU! Remember, Parade Day presented by Marriott is June 13 at 4:30pm. A “Crack of Noon” Pride Day Parade Brunch is a great way to kick off the festivities. Curious about other events or need more info? Don’t worry, here is a link to the Events Calendar.
Have you had enough yet? We hope not! Sir Richards has graciously donated their [awesome] condoms which we will be handing out in the shop while supplies last. Stop by to see us and grab one today!
